This test is used to determine the mother of an individual. Maternity testing relies on comparing DNA between an alleged parent and a child. A child receives 50% of his DNA from the mother and 50% from the father. This means that approximately half of all genes between a parent and his/her child are identical. If we compare a fragment of DNA between an alleged parent and the child it has a 50% chance to be identical.
Maternity testing can be valuable in many positions. For an example if an individual would simply like to resolve his or her doubts regarding maternity, or take a step further and resolve legal issues such as child support (CSA), custody of children, or adoption.
